Why I Write: Sherry

I write because people fascinating me bad.

I love the way people does talk, the way they does hide, the way they does perform, the way they want love but still carry pride like a bodyguard. I notice little things. The pause before the lie. The fake-indifferent tone. The “I’m happy for you” with teeth tight. The relationship that done over in real life but still active on social media.

I see it all the time.

And the more I watch people, the more I realize: human behavior is messy, sweet, funny, tender, dramatic, and revealing all at once.

That is why I write.

I write because relationships is never just relationships. It’s ego, timing, loneliness, desire, insecurity, upbringing, reputation, and plain old confusion wearing lip gloss and good clothes.

I write because island life full of charm, but let me tell you something — it full of performance too.

And I ain’ interested in judging people hard. That easy. I more interested in holding up a mirror with a little humor and a little style and saying, “Be honest. Look how we behaving.”

I write because laughter opens people up. Truth lands softer when it have rhythm. And sometimes the best way to say something sharp is to lace it with warmth.

Mostly, I write because I love people enough to pay attention.

Even when they messy. Especially when they messy.
